The creative team behind Here We Are Collective adds its voice to protect Mediterranean Posidonia oceanica sea grass through its Design for Posidonia project. This initiative, involving renowned Barcelona design companies, including Santa & Cole, is aimed at helping the NGO GOB Mallorca to extol the ecological importance of this ancient aquatic plant. Now is the time to raise awareness of this problem through such a powerful tool as design, which goes straight to the heart.
With this common goal in mind, an exclusive collection of green-dyed furniture and lighting was created, which will be exhibited from November 4 to 6 in Espai2 in Barcelona’s Sala Àngels; and it will later be sold at a charity event at the il Giardinetto restaurant. All of the proceeds from these twelve unique pieces will go to GOB Mallorca, which has been working since 1973 for the environmental conservation of the Balearic Islands and whose objective is to carry out a series of actions to highlight related issues and heighten awareness during the summer of 2020.
Posidonia is a plant endemic to the Mediterranean. In addition to being the oldest species on Earth, it is indispensable for the proper functioning of marine ecosystems. It is a sea grass that forms meadows that drain off CO2 and are responsible for the oxygenation of seawater, in addition to preventing the erosion of beaches. Its conservation is threatened by practices such as dredging or wastewater dumping.
Consistent with our values, at Santa & Cole we are taking part in this initiative by means of Miguel Milá’s emblematic TMM floor lamp. This is a simple object, rooted in Mediterranean culture and designed with the firm aim of enduring over time. It is a commitment to timelessness and quality, manufactured by craftsmen close to our offices. Our environmental responsibility is enshrined in an adequate use of natural resources, as well as the development of processes and systems that respect the environment.
We are pleased to have collaborated on this project with ADOLFO ABEJON, AOO, BD BARCELONA, CRISTIAN HERRERA, MARISCAL, MARIA PRATTS, MARSET, MAX ENRICH, MOBLES 114, NANI MARQUINA and OWL.
Our sincere thanks to Here We Are and to the NGO GOB Mallorca for their work.
