| 2024In October 2023, Carmen Galofré took up her paints and brushes and embarked on a new project: capturing the density of a city like New York. At the time, she was experimenting with empty, silent landscapes, where carefully measured brushstrokes conveyed the nuances of pure light and transparency.
The Big Apple, with its iconic building silhouettes intertwined with the city’s brightness, presents a visual contrast from which Galofré will extract an almost intimate atmosphere.
That dialogue between abstraction and figuration, so characteristic of her work, slowly brews in her imagination. She spends months in her studio working on sketches made on-site, allowing them to evolve into larger-scale oil paintings. And now, she presents her delightful interpretation. Surprise: New York is human.
